Groom Style: 5 Areas to Instantly Sharpen Your Outfit

For most groom, we tend to over simplify things during wedding planning. Even though the outfit style for men can be simple, just a suit with a white shirt and a bow tie. That is not to say you can’t add some personal touches to suit up and style yourself. We share with you 5 areas where you can instantly sharpen your overall outfit on your Big Day.

Groom style directions

The rule of thumb is to put on an outfit that complements the overall wedding theme and at the same time, let your certain parts of your outfit reflect your personality.

1. Fabric

Suit and Shirt, this is your centre piece. There can be so much to talk about about a men’s suit that I should probably dedicate an article on that. But for those For now, we’ll just discuss the basics – fabric, style and colour. This might be a no-brainer for those who wears suits all year round, but for others picking a right suit can be a daunting tasks.

The material used in the suit can make the most difference to your entire outfit on your wedding day. Light-weight fabrics such as linen are suitable for weddings held during summer or beach weddings.

Heavy-weight materials like tweed and wool are best suited for fall/winter themed weddings.

2. Colors and Pattern

Besides, navy and grey, don’t be afraid to try out suits and shirts with different colors! You can take this opportunity to try out colours that you might never get to wear.

Follow our dedicated board for Groom and Groomsmen on Pinterest, where we regularly pin groom and his brother’s outfit inspirations.

3. Ties and Bow Ties

Bow ties and ties are one of the quick way to personalize your outfit. They come in a variety of designs and styles and they are easy to buy.

4. Socks

Socks are a great place where you can your personality shine! It’s great because when you’re all serious with your wedding vow, it stays hidden. But all that fun polka dots, stripes and whatever that you have up your ankles will peek out when you take a seat, or you deliberately pull up your pants.

It can be made even more fun when you and your groomsmen are all dress up with the same styling.

By the way, if you want to all out with the summer look, just skip the socks entirely.

5. Other Accessories

I honestly think that the groom has more area to accessorize compared to the bride. You have your boutonnière, cufflinks, tie bar and cuff links! Most men may ignore this, because we don’t usually wear a pocket square to work. Like socks, pocket squares are another great place to personalize your outfit.

I personally would go for simpler pocket squares, i.e white linen square for the actual wedding day. Because, on your wedding day you would be wearing a boutonnière – the floral decor worn on your suit – and having a pocket square can be quite difficult to carry.

Cufflinks, boutonnières and tie bars are little bits of details that can complement your outfit for your wedding day. There are many choices out there for you, where you can personalize your wedding date or your name. For starters, you can always check out marketplaces like Etsy.
